What is it?

Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) is a national credentialling system that trains, develops, assesses and certifies skills and competencies for the workforce.

Who is WSQ for?

 

WSQ-accredited training programmes equip individuals with skills demanded by current and future economy. Individuals can:

  • Plan career path and acquire new skills to enter a new sector or job role
  • Upgrade skills and advance career
  • Achieve qualifications and certifications that demonstrate skills sets to employers
  • Obtain portable credentials to improve employability and mobility
  • Assess and certify capabilities against industry-established work standards

WSQ training programmes are quality-assured by SkillsFuture Singapore, which awards the WSQ certifications. They reference the Skills Frameworks’ skills and competencies which are validated by employers, unions and professional bodies, ensuring existing and emerging skills and competencies in demand are used to inform training and development.

Critical Core Skills
Technical skills and competencies comprise occupation, job-specific skills and competencies that an individual needs to perform various job tasks.Critical Core Skills refer to soft skills that are  transferable across job roles and increases an individual’s employability, career mobility and enable the acquisition of TSCs relevant for specific job roles in the sector. They help every individual adapt to new job demands and bring relevant skills across different jobs.

Critical Core Skills (CCS) comprises a total of sixteen (16) competencies grouped into three (3) clusters of soft skills that workplaces deem most essential. In August 2020, SSG launched the 16 Critical Core Skills (CCS) for the Future Economy.

The CCS competencies identified are transferable skills that everyone in the workforce should possess in addition to the relevant TSCs in their sectors. For more information on CCS, please refer to the CCS webpage.

As the nation continues its economic transformation, there will be increasing need for reskilling and upskilling. Our SkillsFuture Job-Skills Insights (SFJSI) aim to provide information and insights into the technology and business trends, and their impact on jobs and skills for the future economy. Specifically, our JSI focus on trends in three high-growth economies – Green, Digital and Care.

Individuals can make use of these resources to identify opportunities within these growth areas to guide their skills development journeys. Enterprises too, can use them to guide their business transformation strategies and skills development roadmap for employees.

Training Providers can apply for WSQ course accreditation to conduct WSQ courses. WSQ course accreditation status and funding support will commence from the date that the course is approved. You will need to submit course proposals well ahead of the course commencement date, taking into consideration time needed for SSG to approve the accreditation and funding, as well as time required to develop the courseware. Courses should only commence after SSG’s approval has been given.

From 1 Aug 2022, SSG will only accept new WSQ Full Qualifications (FQ) course applications from:
  • Continuing Education Training Centres (CETCs) or Programme Partners (PPs) appointed by SSG to deliver in-demand and/or emerging skills; or
  • Training providers supported by Government Agencies for regulatory/licensing purposes, national interests, or social needs, e.g. Progressive Wage Model (PWM) courses, training programmes for ex-offenders, persons with disabilities (PWDs) or National Servicemen training.
