Over 10,000 Training Positions For Mid-Career Individuals Rolled Out Under SGUnited Skills Programme
SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) has rolled out over 10,000 training
opportunities, with close to 700 trainees enrolled in 40 courses under
the SGUnited Skills Programme, since its launch at the inaugural
SGUnited Jobs and Skills Fair on 3 July 2020. There are another almost
10,000 places that will become available. Close to 900 opportunities in
the Built Environment sectors will be progressively made available from
this month, with support from various training providers such as the BCA
Academy (BCAA), Institute of Technical Education (ITE), National
University of Singapore (NUS), Republic Polytechnic (RP), Singapore
Institute of Technology (SIT), Singapore Management University (SMU),
Singapore Polytechnic (SP), and Temasek Polytechnic (TP).
For a start, more than 10 courses in sectors such as Construction and
Facilities Management, Security and Environmental Services will be
offered to mid-careerists. These courses will prepare trainees for job
roles such as Building Information Modelling (BIM) Modellers,
Environmental Health and Safety Specialists, Facilities Technicians, and
Security Officers. Minister for Education Mr Lawrence Wong was at SP
today to observe a class conducted for the Specialist Diploma in BIM
Management, an SGUnited Skills Programme which commenced on 3 August
2020.
The 12-month Specialist Diploma in BIM Management is conducted using an
applied learning approach. Trainees can pick up in-demand and emerging
skills such as computational BIM and data analytics in the classroom.
Trainees will also gain industry experience through workplace
attachments and/or projects with companies. Trainees will also be
provided with career advisory and employment assistance throughout the
programme to help them in their job search.
SSG and the various training providers work closely with industry
leaders to ensure that the courses are designed to equip trainees with
in-demand skills that companies are looking for. For instance, SSG and
SP have partnered CapitaLand and CPG Corporation to ensure that this
Specialist Diploma in BIM Management will better position trainees for
job opportunities in digital design, project management, and smart
facilities management. Companies like CapitaLand and CPG Corporation
would also be looking to hire from the pool of trainees.
In adhering with safe distancing measures, the desktop stations in the
classrooms are at least 1m apart. Trainers and trainees are also
required to wear masks at all times. Temperature-taking, as well as
frequent cleaning and disinfection, are also implemented.
