ITE Offers New Apprenticeship-Based Work-Learn Technical Diplomas
To build on ITE’s core strength where students learn by doing, ITE will be offering four new Work-Learn Technical Diploma (WLTD) Programmes, starting from April 2018. These new programmes will be offered in collaboration with employers in Singapore. They are:
- WLTD in Marine & Offshore Engineering
- WLTD in Mechanical & Electrical Services Supervision
- WLTD in Rehabilitation Care
- WLTD in Security Systems Engineering
Similar to the SkillsFuture Earn and Learn Programmes, the new WLTD programmes are developed and delivered in close partnership with key employers. Learning takes place both at the workplace and on campus, with 70 per cent of the curriculum time dedicated to On-the-Job Training. These new Technical Diplomas will be awarded by ITE.
The WLTD progammes last between 2.5 and 3 years. Up to 120 places across the four programmes will be offered for the first intake. As a start, employers such as Certis CISCO, ST Electronics, Keppel Offshore & Marine, Sembcorp Marine Ltd, St Luke’s Eldercare and AWWA have committed to providing training places for the WLTD programmes, and ITE looks forward to more companies coming onboard. With the new WLTDs, ITE graduates can look forward to career progression opportunities after completion of the programmes.

Application requirements
The WLTD programmes are open to both fresh and in-employment ITE graduates who are:
Singaporean Citizens or Permanent Residents; and have
A relevant Nitec with a Grade Point Average (GPA) score of at least 2.0; or
A relevant Higher Nitec; or
Any Nitec/Higher Nitec, 2 years’ relevant work experience, and support from their employers. Employers must be participants of the WLTD programme. Non-ITE graduates with relevant experience and strong employer endorsement will also be considered.

Registration for the WLTDs will open from Monday, 27 November 2017 to Friday, 2 February 2018. Applicants can register via the ITE website at http://www.ite.edu.sg.

“I think the new Work-Learn Technical Diploma in Security System Engineering has two clear advantages. One, we can earn an income while learning deeper skills. For those of us who need to supplement our family’s income, we can work while studying and that is very beneficial. Two, the new course will cover the aspect of physical security systems like cameras, cables and access control devices. The current polytechnic courses do not cover this area. Muhammad Mirza Bin Fatah is now working as a technician with Synergy FM International. The company offered him the full-time position after his industry attachment with them. Mirza graduated with a Higher Nitec in Facility Management earlier this year. He started work in Mar 2017, soon after graduation.

Nur Fitri Binte Sulaiman completed the Nitec in Aerospace Avionics course in Mar 2015 before taking up the Higher Nitec in Marine Engineering course in Apr 2015. She has a scholarship with SembCorp Marine (SCM) and started work at the SCM Admiralty Yard after her Higher Nitec course in Apr 2017.
