Inaugural SkillsFuture Credit Roadshow Launched To Help Singaporeans Kick-Start Their Lifelong Learning Journey
Organised by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA),the SkillsFuture Credit Roadshow was launched today by Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies, and SkillsFuture Council Chairman, Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, to help Singaporeans take personal ownership of their lifelong learning.
Through the month of January 2016, Singaporeans aged 25 years and above will be receiving their account activation letters, together with a step-by-step guide booklet on the use of SkillsFuture credit.
All eligible Singaporeans will receive an initial credit of S$500 which can be used to offset course fees, on top of course subsidies. WDA is working with government agencies and training providers to expand the suite of courses approved for SkillsFuture Credit.
“WDA has started sending out the SkillsFuture Credit Activation
letters from 4th January 2016, and will continue to do so in batches.
All Singaporeans aged 25 years and above will receive their letters by
the end of January 2016. This will include a step-by-step
guide booklet on the use of SkillsFuture credit. WDA will be organising
several roadshows like today’s, to help Singaporeans understand and
learn how they can plan for their skills and training needs, and make
better use of their credit,” said Mr Ng
Cher Pong, Chief Executive of WDA.
Avenues for Assistance
Singaporeans who require assistance on SkillsFuture Credit, especially those who are less IT savvy, can approach the following help avenues.
- WDA Career Centres at Jurong East, Paya Lebar, Tampines, Toa Payoh and Woodlands
- National Trades Union Congress (NTUC)’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) Career Services Centre, U PME Centre and U Care Centre
- Self-help groups such as the Association of Muslim Professionals, Chinese Development Assistance Council, The Eurasian Association, Singapore, Yayasan MENDAKI and Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA)
- Training Providers and MOE-funded institutions
- Selected People’s Association Community Clubs
They can also attend the SkillsFuture Credit Roadshows, where they will also be assisted with planning their learning journey. For enquiries or feedback on SkillsFuture Credit, Singaporeans can also call the WDA hotline at 6883 5885 or write-in via the feedback portal at www.skillsfuture.sg/credit.
Union members will also be able to get further assistance and
information on SkillsFuture Credit from the NTUC Members’ Hub at One
Marina Boulevard and e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) Career
Services Centre. NTUC union leaders and industrial
relations officers can assist members with information on SkillsFuture
Credit.
Extending the outreach through SkillsFuture Credit Roadshows
At least 6,000 Singaporeans who are eligible for SkillsFuture Credit are expected to attend the two-day roadshow at Westgate Mall from 9 – 10 January 2016. WDA will roll-out more roadshows from February this year at various locations island wide. At these roadshows, Singaporeans will be able to find out more about the approved SkillsFuture Credit courses and how they can use their credit to achieve their skills training and career goals.
