20 Youth Clinched Top Honours at WorldSkills Singapore Competition

20 youth clinched top honours at the WorldSkills Singapore (WSS) Phase 2 Competition. The Competition, which covers 17 skill areas, featured 149 skilled young competitors from ITE and the five polytechnics. It took place between 27 and 30 September 2023, with each skill area spanning three days.

The winners were presented with their medals by Minister of State for Education and Manpower, Ms Gan Siow Huang, at the WSS 2023 Phase 2 Closing Ceremony, which was held on Friday, 6 October 2023, at Temasek Polytechnic. A total of 55 medals were awarded - 18 Gold, 18 Silver, and 19 Bronze. Each individual medallist received a cash prize of $3,000, $2,000, or $1,000, respectively, while the winners of team events were awarded cash prizes of $4,500, $3,000, or $1,500, respectively. The top medallists from the WSS 2023 Phase 2 Competition will be part of the 33-member delegation, which will represent Singapore at the 47th WorldSkills Competition (WSC) in Lyon, France, next September.

Mr Tan Kok Yam, Chairman of WorldSkills Singapore Council, and Chief Executive of SkillsFuture Singapore, said, "My heartiest congratulations to all the participants and medal winners of WorldSkills Singapore! WorldSkills Singapore Phase 1, held from 29 March to 1 April 2023, had 122 participants vying for the top spots in 12 skill areas. The top medallists from the Phase 1 competition represented Singapore at the 13th WorldSkills ASEAN Competition, which was held from 23 to 25 July 2023.
