Her Path of Influence

As a child, Jamaine’s grandmother had an impact on her fashion path as she watched her grandmother sew with an old fashioned sewing machine. Her grandmother was the driving force, leading Jamaine to find her true passion in fashion design.

Her passion in fashion design grew when she subscribed to the channel of the charming twin YouTubers known as Q2HAN. They share tips and tricks of fashion like styling tips for any occasion and some DIY tutorials, and their experiences attending the highly coveted Milan fashion week.

When it came time to select her diploma course, Jamaine’s decision was clear. She was eager to enrol in Temasek Polytechnic's Diploma in Apparel Design & Merchandising

Her Path to WorldSkills

Jamaine would be one of the 44 Singaporean competitors at the WorldSkills ASEAN 2023 competition (WSA2023), going head-to-head against students across ASEAN countries in the same skill area of Fashion Technology.

Her training in fashion technology has provided her with a variety of skills, including draping, drafting, technical drawing, and jacket production. Precision and attention to details are a must when working with such fine garments on the sewing machine. Besides the technical aspects of fashion design, each task also has deadlines to meet.

Her Path for the Future

Jamaine is still formulating a plan on where she intends to pursue her studies, but she is enthusiastic and committed to excel in the fashion industry. She hopes to realise her dream to become one of Singapore’s top fashion designers.

She recognises that a long journey awaits her as "there is still so much room for improvement”, but Jamaine is excited to continue honing her skills.

When asked about how she thinks she will grow from her experience at WSA 2023, Jamaine shares that she is not one to fear from a good adventure and she’s grateful for the opportunity given to enhance her abilities.

We are all excited to see what Jamaine has in store for the future. Her journey will certainly be as colourful as the fabrics she produces!
